Fynn Bachmann

Ph.D Candidate in Computer Science at University of Zurich.

profile.jpeg

I’m a Ph.D. candidate at the intersection of machine learning, democratic decision-making, and online deliberation. My research focuses on developing intelligent systems that enhance citizen participation in democracy.

During my Ph.D., I have primarily worked with Voting Advice Application (VAA) data. Based on item-response theory, I developed a latent-space model for adaptive questionnaires that will be integrated into the Swiss VAA Smartvote. Furthermore, I conducted several controlled user experiments on our self-implemented VAA to understand the voters’ perspective on adaptive questionnaires.

My current research interests include:

  • Active learning for information collection in political surveys
  • Conversational agents for VAAs and political education
  • Digital tools for citizen participation and deliberation

You can find more details about my work on the projects and publications pages.

I am completing my Ph.D. thesis and look for post-doctoral positions in related fields. If you know of relevant opportunities or would like to collaborate, please reach out.
